Marriages and divorces in the Republic of Macedonia in 2016

According to the State Statistical Office data, the number of marriages registered in 2016 was 13 199, a decrease of 7.0% compared to the previous year. The most marriages were registered in August, 1 721 or 13.0%, while the fewest in April, 637 or 4.8%. By marriage order, most were first marriages, with participation of 92.5% for women and 91.2% for men. Men entered more often into second marriage (8.1%) and third marriage (0.7% of the total number of marriages). In 2016, the highest number of marriages by age of bride was registered in the age group 20-24 years (33.7%), while by age of groom in the age group 25-29 years (37.1%). The average age at first marriage is 26.5 years for bride and 29.3 for groom. In 2016, there were 1 985 divorces, a decrease of 9.8% compared to 2015. There were fewest divorces in June, 39 or 2.0%, while most in March, 245 or 12.3%. The highest number of divorces by age of wife was recorded in the age group 25-29 years (18.6%), while by age of husband in the age group 35-39 years (18.0%).
