Primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools at the begining of the school year,
2017/2018
In this publication, the State Statistical Office of the Republic of Macedonia is publishing data on the educational process in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary education, which have been collected through the regular annual statistical surveys conducted at the beginning of the school year 2017/2018 in all types of schools.
The publication comprises data on the number of primary and lower secondary schools (regular, special, adult schools and art schools), class sections, enrolled students by sex, grades and municipalities, students according to the study of foreign language (first and second compulsory and facultative), students that use free transport, accommodation in boarding schools and private families.
Also, there are a lot of data on teachers according to the type of employment, sex, age, number of lessons, level of education and supporting staff.
According to the changes in the Law on Primary Education (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 51/2007), starting from the school year 2007/2008, the primary and lower secondary education in the Republic of Macedonia lasts 9 years (nine years) and is compulsory for all children at 6 years of age.
For the upper secondary schools (regular, special and religious), in addition to the number of schools, also included are data on class sections, students by sex, qualification, educational programmes and municipalities, students according to age, year of study and study of foreign language (first and second compulsory and facultative). Also, there are a lot of data on teachers according to the type of employment, sex, age, number of lessons, level of education and supporting staff.
According to the administrative division of the Republic of Macedonia from 2013, the municipalities Drugovo, Vraneshtica, Zajas and Oslomej ceased to exist and were merged with the municipality of Kichevo. Therefore, starting from the school year 2013/2014, the publications will no longer contain data for these municipalities, while for the municipality of Kichevo the number of schools, students and teachers will be larger.
