In 2009 the number of marriages and the number of divorces increased in the Republic of Macedonia

Increased number of marriages
According to the State Statistical Office data, the number of marriages in 2009 increased 1.6% compared to the previous year and it amounted to 14 923 marriages.
The most marriages were in August (12.0%) and the least in March (5.2%).
Most of the marriages were first marriages, 92.6% for women and 90.5% for men.
Men entered more often into second marriage (8.8%) and third marriage (0.7%).

Average age of groom/ bride at first marriage
The average age at first marriage is 25.0 years for bride and 28.0 for groom.

Increased number of divorces
The number of divorces in 2008 increased by 6.5% compared to 2008 and it amounted to 1287 divorces.
There were least divorces in August (2.6%) and most in March (11.0%).
The biggest number of divorces by age of wife (21.0%) was recorded in the age group 25-29, and for the husband (18.3%) in the age group 30-34.
