According to the data of the State Statistical Office, 197 persons have gained the title "Doctor of Science" in 2016, which is a
decrease of 19.9% compared with 2015.
The majority of doctorate holders, 36.5%, have gained their doctorate in the field of social sciences, followed by 19.3% in medical
sciences, 18.3% in the field of humanities, while the rest have obtained their doctorate in the field of technical - technological
sciences, natural sciences and mathematics and biotechnical sciences.
The participation of females that have obtained a doctorate during 2016 was 111 candidates or 56.3% of the total number of
doctorates in 2016.
Of the total number of persons that have gained the title Doctor of Science, the majority, 32.5%, work in educational activity.
