Business tendencies in manufacturing industry in January 2019

The managers of the business entities assessed that the confidence indicator in manufacturing industry in January 2019, standing at 20.1, is 0.3 percentage points lower compared to December 2018 and 1.3 percentage points higher compared to January 2018. The situation with the current volume of production orders in January 2019 is less favourable compared to the previous month, the expectations for the production volume for the next three months are also less favourable, while the stocks of finished goods have increased compared to December 2018. The estimation of the economic situation is less satisfactory compared to the previous month, but more satisfactory compared to January 2018. The number of employees is expected to increase. The average capacity utilization level of the business entities in January 2019 decreased to 68.2% of normal utilization. The factors that had the greatest influence on limiting the production volume in December 2018 were: shortage of skilled labour with 28.7%, insufficient domestic demand with 15.5%, insufficient foreign demand with 15.3%, and uncertainty of the economic environment with 8.9%.
