External trade, January 2023

According to the preliminary data of the State Statistical Office, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in January 2023 amounted to 38 290 737 thousand denars, a 13.7% increase compared to the same period last year. The value of imported goods in the same period was 52 331 819 thousand denars, or 4.9% more than the same period last year.

The trade deficit in January 2023 was 14 041 082 thousand denars.

Import coverage by export in January 2023 was 73.2%.

The external trade by products shows that in the exports the most significant products are supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets of a kind used in vehicles, aircraft or ships, the electricity and flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, not clad, plated or coated. In the imports, the most significant products are petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), other metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof, unwrought or in powder form, platinum and platinum alloys, unwrought or in powder form and colloidal precious metals; compounds, inorganic or organic, of precious metals, whether or not chemically defined; amalgams of precious metals.

In January 2023, according to the total external trade volume, the most important trade partners of the Republic of North Macedonia were Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Serbia and China.

External trade expressed in euros and US dollars

Expressed in euros, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in January 2023 amounted to 621 120 thousand euros, a 13.7% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 848 978 thousand euros, or 5.0% more than the same period last year. The trade deficit in January 2023 was 227 858 thousand euros.

The total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in January 2023 amounted to 671 099 thousand US dollars, a 8.6% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 916 773 thousand US dollars, or 0.1% more than the same period last year. The trade deficit in January 2023 was 245 674 thousand US dollars.
