External trade, January – July 2023

According to the preliminary data of the State Statistical Office, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January-July 2023 amounted to 304 789 580 thousand denars, a 3.7% increase compared to the same period last year. The value of imported goods in the same period was 396 398 126 thousand denars, or 7.1% less than the same period last year.

The trade deficit in the period January-July 2023 was 91 608 546 thousand denars.

Import coverage by export in the period January-July 2023 was 76.9%.

The external trade by products shows that in the exports the most significant products are supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets of a kind used in vehicles, aircraft or ships, the electricity and flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, not clad, plated or coated. In the imports, the most significant products are petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), other metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof, unwrought or in powder form, platinum and platinum alloys, unwrought or in powder form and colloidal precious metals; compounds, inorganic or organic, of precious metals, whether or not chemically defined; amalgams of precious metals.

In the period January-July 2023, according to the total external trade volume, the most important trade partners of the Republic of North Macedonia were Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Serbia and China.

External trade expressed in euros and US dollars

Expressed in euros, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January-July 2023 amounted to 4 947 787 thousand euros, a 3.8% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 6 434 993 thousand euros, or 7.0% less than the same period last year. The trade deficit in the period January-July 2023 was 1 487 206 thousand euros.

The total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January-July 2023 amounted to 5 364 439 thousand US dollars, a 4.0% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 6 977 797 thousand US dollars, or 6.8% less than the same period last year. The trade deficit in the period January-July 2023 was 1 613 358 thousand US dollars.
