According to the definitive data of the State Statistical Office, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January-December 2017 amounted to 309 048 850 thousand denars, a 14.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The value of imported goods in the same period was 420 859 860 thousand denars, or 10.6% more than the same period last year.
The trade deficit in the period January - December 2017, was 111 811 010 thousand denars.
Import coverage by export in the period January - December 2017 was 73.4%.
The external trade by products shows that in the exports the most significant products are supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets of a kind used in vehicles, aircrafts or ships, motor vehicles for the transport of 10 or more persons, including the driver, with compression-ignition internal combustion engine (diesel or semi-diesel). In the imports, the most significant products are the platinum and platinum alloys, unwrought or in powder form, petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), other metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof, unwrought or in powder form and flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, not clad, plated or coated, not further worked than hot-rolled of a width of 600 mm or more, in coils.
In the period January - December 2017, according to the total external trade volume, the most important trade partners of the Republic of North Macedonia were Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria.

The trade deficit in the period January - December 2017 was 1 816 215 thousand euros.
The total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January - December 2017 amounted to 5 683.890 thousand US dollars, a 17.1% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 7 730 850 thousand US dollars, or 13.1% more than the same period last year. The trade deficit in the period January - December 2017 was 2 046 960 thousand US dollars.
