According to the preliminary data of the State Statistical Office, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in January 2020 amounted to 28 138 725 thousand denars, a 10.1% increase compared to the same period last year. The value of imported goods in the same period was 35 248 370 thousand denars, or 0.5% more than the same period last year.
The trade deficit in January 2020 was 7 109 646 thousand denars.
Import coverage by export in January 2020 was 79.8%.
The external trade by products shows that in the exports the most significant products are supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets of a kind used in vehicles, aircraft or ships, parts of the seats of subgroup 821.1 and ferro-nickel. In the imports, the most significant products are the other metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof, unwrought or in powder form, ceramic wares for laboratory, chemical or other technical uses, petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude) and flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, not clad, plated or coated.
In January 2020, according to the total external trade volume, the most important trade partners of the Republic of North Macedonia were Germany, Great Britain, China, Serbia and Greece.
External trade expressed in euros and US dollars
Expressed in euros, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in January 2020 amounted to 457 194 thousand euros, a 10.1% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 572 750 thousand euros, or 0.5% more than the same period last year. The trade deficit in January 2020 was 115 556 thousand euros.
The total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in January 2020 amounted to 507 332 thousand US dollars, a 7.0% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 635 599 thousand US dollars, or 2.3% less than the same period last year. The trade deficit in January 2020 was 128 267 thousand US dollars.
