In order to increase the degree of harmonisation with the standards of European Union statistics, the State Statistical Office made certain methodological improvements on the basis of which it revised the data on the demographic characteristics of enterprises for the period 2018-2019 and prepared data for 2020.
Enterprise births, 2020
In 2020, there were 5 141 enterprise births, which is 7.8% of the total number of active market-oriented enterprises whose main activity according to the National Classification of Activities - NKD Rev.2 is in the sectors of activity from B to S[1]). In comparison with 2019, the number of enterprise births decreased by 6.0%, mostly in the sectors Transportation and storage, Trade, Manufacturing as well as Accommodation and food service activities.
The biggest share of enterprise births (77.6%) was recorded in service activities, among them the most in Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (1 574), Accommodation and food service activities (609) and Professional, scientific and technical activities (553). Of the newly born enterprises, 12.2% were registered in Industry, while 10.2% in Construction.
Enterprise births employed 9 867 persons, 23.7% fewer than in the previous year. Of the newly born enterprises, 20.6% were without employees, 74.4% employed from 1 to 4 persons, and 3.4% employed from 5 to 9 persons.
The data on the structure of enterprise births by legal form show that the majority were enterprises categorised according to their legal form as limited liability companies and joint stock companies (80.7%).
Enterprise deaths, 2019, preliminary data
There were 5 407 enterprise deaths in 2019, or 8.2% of the total number of active enterprises.
The sector with the highest share of enterprise deaths (37.1%) was Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, while according to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths (80.7%) was registered in enterprises categorised as limited liability companies and joint stock companies.
Enterprise deaths, 2018, final data
There were 4 879 enterprise deaths in 2018, or 7.5% of the total number of active enterprises.
The sector with the highest share of enterprise deaths (38.6%) was Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, while according to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths (81.0%) was registered in enterprises categorised as limited liability companies and joint stock companies.
