Enterprise births, 2021
In 2021, there were 5 960 enterprise births, which is 9,1% of the total number of active market-oriented enterprises whose main activity according to the National Classification of Activities - NKD Rev.2 is in the sectors of activity from B to S. In comparison with 2020, the number of enterprise births increased for 15.9%, mostly in the sectors Wholesale and retail trade, Construction, Transportation and storage, Information and communications , Manufacturing as well as Accommodation and food service activities.
The biggest share of enterprise births (76.4%) was recorded in service activities, among them the most in Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (1 782), Accommodation and food service activities (623) and Professional, scientific and technical activities (623). Of the newly born enterprises, 12.5% were registered in Industry, while 11.1% in Construction.
Enterprise births employed 11991 persons, 21.5% more than in the previous year. Of the newly born enterprises, 16.8% were without employees, 77.6% employed from 1 to 4 persons, and 3.6% employed from 5 to 9 persons.
The data on the structure of enterprise births by legal form show that the majority were enterprises categorised according to their legal form as limited liability companies and joint stock companies (85.4%).
Enterprise deaths, 2020, preliminary data
There were 5 382 enterprise deaths in 2020, or 8.2% of the total number of active enterprises.
The sector with the highest share of enterprise deaths (30.8%) was Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, while according to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths (75.5%) was registered in enterprises categorised as limited liability companies and joint stock companies.

There were 5544 enterprise deaths in 2019, or 8.4% of the total number of active enterprises.
The sector with the highest share of enterprise deaths (35.5%) was Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, while according to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths (76.6%) was registered in enterprises categorised as limited liability companies and joint stock companies.
