Enterprise births, 2014
According to the data of the State Statistical Office, there were 7161 enterprise births recorded in 2014, which is 10.6% of the
total number of active enterprises in the Republic of Macedonia whose main activity according to the National Classification of
Activities - NKD Rev.2 is in the sectors of activity from B to S1). In comparison with the previous year, an increase of 5.2% was
registered in the number of enterprise births.
Analysed by sector of activity, the biggest share (32.1%) of enterprise births was recorded in the sector Wholesale and retail
trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, followed by Accommodation and food service activities (11.9%), Manufacturing
(10.8), and Professional, scientific and technical activities (9.3%).
The data on the structure of enterprise births by legal form show that the majority are enterprises categorised as limited liability
companies and joint stock companies (70.7%).

Enterprises born in 2009-2013 still operating in 2014
Of the total number of enterprises born in 2009, 43.2% were still operating in 2014. The greatest survival rate is observed
among the newly born enterprises in the sectors Human health and social work activities (79.5%) and Professional, scientific and
technical activities (56.9%).
Data show that 37.6% of the enterprises born in 2010, 48.1% of those born in 2011, 52.6% of the newly born enterprises in 2012
and 79.4% of the enterprises born in 2013 survived in 2014. The highest survival rate in 2010, 2011 and 2013 was observed in
newly born enterprises in the sector Human health and social work activities, while in 2012 in enterprises belonging to the sector
Financial and insurance activities (without class 64.20).

Enterprise deaths, 2012
In 2012, there were 9993 enterprise deaths, or 14.3% of the total number of active enterprises in the specified sectors.
The sector with the highest share in enterprises deaths was Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and
motorcycles.
According to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths belongs to those categorised as limited liability companies
and joint stock companies.
