Enterprise births, 2017

According to the data of the State Statistical Office, in 2017, were recorded 6 321 enterprise births which is 9.2% of the total number of active enterprises in the Republic of North Macedonia whose main activity according to the National Classification of Activities - NKD Rev.2 is in the sectors of activity from B to S[1]). In comparison with the previous year, the number of enterprise births decreased by 11.4%.

Reviewed by activity sector, the biggest share (30.2%) of the enterprise births belongs to Wholesale and retail trade repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, followed by Manufacturing (10.7%), Professional, scientific and technical activities (10.6%) and Accommodation and food service activities (10.3%).

The data on the structure of the enterprise births by legal form show that the highest share belongs to enterprises categorised according to their legal form as limited liability companies and joint stock companies (72.3%).

Enterprise deaths, 2017 Preliminary

Of the total number of active enterprises, in 2017, 8.5% i.e. 5 796 enterprise deaths were recorded.

Reviewed by activity sector, the biggest share (36.8%) of the enterprise deaths belongs to Wholesale and retail trade repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector and according to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths belongs to those categorized as limited liability companies and joint stock companies.

Enterprise births in 2012-2016 still operating in 2017

32.9% of the total number of enterprises born in 2012 were still operating in 2017. The greatest survival rate is observed among the enterprise births, Human health and social work activities sector (64.2%) and Professional, scientific and technical activities (59.0%).

50.2% from the enterprises born in 2013, survived in 2017, 59.5% in 2014, 73.5% in 2015 and 82.2% in 2016. The highest survival rate in 2012, 2013 and 2015 had newly born enterprises in Human health and social work activities sector, in 2014 was newly born enterprises in Financial and insurance activities (without 64.20 class) sector and Education sector for enterprises born in 2016.
