Physical Energy Flow Accounts, 2021/2022 - Preliminary data

In 2022, net domestic energy use amounted to 117 269 terajoules (TJ) and increased by 2.4% compared to 2021. The largest increase was recorded in Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 29.5%, followed by Transportation and storage by 3.6%. In Manufacturing it decreased by 20.8%, while increases were recorded in Mining and quarrying by 1.5% and in Agriculture, forestry and fishing by 1.3%. In all remaining sections of activities, it went down by 4.7% in total, while in households it went down by 6.0%.
Energy extracted from natural resources went up by 17.4%. A total of 43 572 TJ of energy was obtained from natural resources, which is a 17.4% increase over the previous year. The most, 29 770 TJ or 68.3% of all this energy was obtained in Mining and quarrying, followed by Agriculture, forestry and fishing with 7 194 TJ (16.5%) and Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply with 6 608 TJ (15.2%).
Resident units abroad used 6 970 TJ of energy (fuel purchased abroad for air transport and road transport) in 2022, which is a 35.1% increase over the previous year. Non-resident units in the Republic of North Macedonia used 6 363 TJ of energy (fuel purchased on the territory for air transport and road transport), which is a 35.7% increase over the previous year.
