In December 2007, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia adopted the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics in the Republic of Macedonia - NTES (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 158/2007).
As a result of the implementation of the Law on Territorial Organisation of the Local Self-Government in the Republic of Macedonia, according to which the municipalities Zajas, Oslomej, Drugovo and Vranestica became part of Kichevo, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia adopted a Decision amending the Decision on the establishment of the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics – NTES ("Official Gazette" No. 10 of 20.01.2014). The amendments relate to NTES level 4 and NTES level 5.
The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics-NTES is based on the territorial organisation of the local self-government in the Republic of Macedonia and the European Union classification Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics - NUTS.
The basic goal of the Nomenclature is to provide unique and unified division of the territorial units on regional and local level. NTES is a basis for collecting, processing and publishing regional statistics and it is used for planning and keeping of regional policy in the Republic of Macedonia. The NTES Nomenclature consists of 5 levels.
