Regional Workshop "Census and Population Policies"


Organised by the Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Anti-Poverty Platform, a regional workshop was held in Stip today to discuss the need for a Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in the Republic of North Macedonia and the population policies through the prism of the Sustainable Development Goals as a measure to track each country's progress. At the workshop, the Director of the State Statistical Office, Mr. Apostol Simovski, presented the preparations for the next Census, the novelties proposed in the way of conducting the Census, as well as the need for adoption of the Census Law as soon as possible as a precondition for timely completion of all phases of preparation for this most massive statistical operation.

The representative of the Anti-Poverty Platform, Ms. Biljana Dukovska, explained the Sustainable Development Goals as a tool for monitoring and measuring the country's progress, as well as the need for a Census to create good and sustainable population policies.

Attendees of the workshop - representatives of the non-governmental sector of the Eastern Region, representatives of the local self-government as well as citizens showed great interest in the topic and with their discussions confirmed the importance of this extremely significant statistical operation, whose success is reflected on the overall social and economic life of the Republic of North Macedonia.
