Bilateral visit and deepening of the partnership with Statistics Sweden
24.01.2025

The bilateral strategic management visit strengthens the partnership between the State Statistical Office of the Republic of North Macedonia and Statistics Sweden. This type of cooperation is of crucial importance for the further development of statistical capacities in our country and for deepening our partnership with Statistics Sweden.
The long-standing and effective bilateral cooperation between the two institutions, supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), has a long history and has developed through five key phases.
The first three phases focused on supporting agricultural statistics (2002 - 2011), while the fourth and fifth phases (2020 - 2027) are dedicated to strengthening the institutional capacity of the State Statistical Office.
This process includes active cooperation with other producers of official statistical surveys and holders of administrative registers, in order to improve their capacity, as well as the production of high-quality and accurate statistical data, which are of essential importance for the accession process of the Republic of North Macedonia to the European Union.
During the visit (21 - 23.01.2025), several topics were discussed and presented, with a special focus on the experiences of the organizational structural setup of the institutions in order to meet strategic goals and challenges; the planning and monitoring system and internal communication.
Also, the Director of the State Statistical Office, Dr. Dejan Stankov, presented the activities for rebranding the State Statistical Office, into a modern European institution.
Furthermore, an updated version of the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Statistical Office and Statistics Sweden, regarding the implementation of the joint project which aims to improve the capacity of the SSO to produce statistics in accordance with user needs and EU requirements.
